Salary: $110,000–$125,000 per year + relocation assistance
A global leader in infrastructure services is seeking an experienced Construction Inspection Engineer (Roads & Bridges) with a valid Illinois PE license. In this role, you'll lead the inspection of roads, bridges, and related infrastructure for county, city, and other local government agencies.
Based in Champaign, Illinois (with relocation support available), this position offers you the opportunity to bring your extensive field experience and commitment to quality assurance to projects that directly impact American communities.
Responsibilities
• Conduct on-site inspections of roads, bridges, and related municipal infrastructure projects
• Ensure compliance with AASHTO and ASTM standards for construction and pavement inspection
• Monitor foundation installations for bridges and retaining walls, with a preference for geotechnical inspection experience
• Oversee and document materials testing, including pavement cores, soil compaction, and concrete quality
• Utilize nuclear and electrical density gauges for field compaction testing (preferred but not required)
• Review contractor work for compliance with engineering plans, technical specifications, and safety standards
• Prepare detailed inspection reports and technical documentation to support project compliance
• Liaise with government agencies, contractors, and other project stakeholders
• Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineers and field inspection staff
Requirements
• Valid Illinois Professional Engineer (PE) License (required)
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s degree is a plus)
• Extensive experience in construction inspection, particularly roads, bridges, and pavement engineering
• Strong knowledge of AASHTO and ASTM standards for materials and structural inspection
• Excellent technical writing and communication skills
• Authorized to work in the United States
• Previous experience with geotechnical inspection and use of compaction testing equipment is advantageous
