Job Classification: Entry-Level Firefighter
The Fayetteville Fire Department is creating an annual eligibility list for Entry-Level Firefighter positions. Candidates must complete the CPAT (licensed by the IAFF) and FireTEAM test through National Testing Network.
Salary Information:
Starting Salary: $46,126
Pay Range: $46,126 - $63,831

The department consists of 134 members operating from nine fire stations, utilizing state-of-the-art fire trucks and rescue and medical equipment. In 2023, the department responded to 13,156 calls for service.

Job Requirements:
Age: 18-35 (exceptions for experienced or military applicants)
Citizenship: U.S. citizen or legally admitted nonimmigrant under the Compact of Free Association
Education: High school diploma or GED; equivalent college credits or certifications may substitute
Driver's License: Valid license required
Language: Ability to read and speak English
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates under 21 must meet one of the following:
Arkansas EMT certification or National Registry EMT certification
Medical certification or license at a higher level (e.g., paramedic, nurse)
12 college credit hours
Firefighter I and II certifications (IFSAC or Pro-Board)
Two years of honorable U.S. military service
Other Age-Related Exceptions:
Applicants over 35 must have prior paid firefighter experience or military service with certain conditions.
Post-Hiring Requirements:
Obtain Firefighter I and II certifications (IFSAC) within 12 months of hire.
Obtain EMT certification within 18 months of hire.
Pass all post-offer medical screenings, background checks, and physical requirements.
Disqualifiers:
Criminal Record: Felony convictions
Driving Record: Lack of a valid driver's license
Employment History: Failure to pass post-offer medical, background checks, or other required screenings
Specific Requirements: Inability to climb a 75-foot aerial ladder
Job Conditions:
Must be capable of lifting/moving up to 100 pounds and performing under adverse and extreme conditions.
Work involves exposure to hazardous materials, weather extremes, and high-stress environments.
Training Provided: Firefighter and EMT certifications will be provided post-hiring.
