Position Summary Under the direction of the Senior AVP of Student Health, Counseling, & Wellness Services (SHCWS), the Health Communications Specialist will be responsible for strategic public health communication, campus-wide public health campaigns, and marketing strategies for SHCWS to enhance the value of health and wellness as an essential component of student success and retention. This position will be responsible for promoting a positive department image by collaborating with SHCWS staff and leadership, and other University departments, in the initiation, execution, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of strategic public health communications to proactively communicate the mission, vision, and services to enhance student health and wellness. This individual will assist the Senior Associate Vice President for SHCWS with report writing, proposal, and presentation development to create engaging public health communications that are relevant to the health of the campus and external community. FLSA: Exempt (Not eligible for overtime compensation) Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,985 per month - $5,820 per month CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,842 per month - $8,759 per month Work Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday. Hours may vary based on operational need. Department Information Student Health, Counseling & Wellness Services (SHCWS) embraces a holistic and collaborative approach to healthcare by offering urgent care, primary care, preventative services, wellness education, violence support services, and mental health services to the Sacramento State campus community. SHCWS is committed to providing quality care and service delivery and is accredited through the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC). Required Qualifications Equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in public health practice, health promotion, health education, health-related public information, or related field. Understanding of basic public health concepts, including disease prevention, health promotion, epidemiology, and healthcare systems. Experience conducting needs assessments and data-analysis in higher education settings and communication of results to guide programmatic decisions. Experience in developing, planning, and executing public health communication, public affairs, and media programs in both print and digital formats including the ability to create, edit, and manage content for various platforms, including social media, websites, newsletters, and other digital and print media. Experience acting as the primary point of contact for media inquiries, providing accurate and timely information on public health topics including writing and distributing press releases, media advisories, and public service announcements. Experience developing educational materials, such as brochures, fact sheets, and infographics, to communicate health promotion messages and education effectively. Exceptional oral, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with internal and external constituents. Experience planning and executing public health campaigns to raise awareness about important health issues and trends, such as vaccination, disease prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices. Demonstrated ingenuity in the development of public health communication strategies, concepts, ideas, and campus-wide campaigns. Ability to coordinate with internal teams and external partners to ensure consistent and unified messaging across all communication channels. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure content accuracy and relevance. Experience preparing reports and presentations on SHCWS initiatives including outcomes, providing insights and recommendations for future initiatives. Proficiency in operating a PC, using office software (i.e., Microsoft Office), CANVA, Adobe, and various versions of graphic design software. Effective organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and meet goals and deadlines. Condition of Employment Ability to successfully complete a background check. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree or advanced degree in public health practice, health promotion, health education, or related field. Experience working in higher education, public health, or health promotion environment. Public health promotion, public information officer for health, marketing or media production experience in higher education setting with knowledge of mental health, suicide prevention, health equity/health equality, health care systems, clinical settings, health organizations, and student development in diverse health settings. Knowledge of college health trends, adverse childhood experiences, social determinants of health. Knowledge of regulatory compliance such as AAAHC accreditation. Knowledge of basic medical terminology and health equality/equity.
