Description Lee County Department of Transportation is thrilled to announce an exciting role for a motivated and energetic self-starter to join our team as a Heavy Equipment Operator, Senior. This position involves skilled operation of a variety of heavy equipment, including grade-all excavators, motor graders, bulldozers, mini excavators, lowboys, front-end loaders, trucks with trailers, pick-up trucks, and other related machinery.
Duties and Responsibilities - Primary functions of this position include operating hand and power tools, performing routine maintenance and inspections of related equipment, and maintaining road right-of-ways.
- Installing and repairing drainage pipes, catch basin forming, pouring, and finishing concrete.
- Placing, finishing, protecting, and repairing concrete.
- Ability to level screed, bull/hand float, and rebar tying.
- Setting concrete forms for curb, driveways, and sidewalks.
- Help with final grade adjustments.
- May work with a crew or independently.
Education, Experience, Licensing Minimum Requirements - Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to High School graduation or GED equivalent and three years of heavy equipment operation or closely related experience.
- This is a safety-sensitive position which is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing as provided in DOT regulation 49CFR-Parts 40 and/or 382.
Licenses - Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License with airbrake and acceptable driving record is required.
Supplemental Information - Stand, sit, crawl, or kneel for long periods and work outdoors in all weather.
- Lift up to 70 lbs.
- Form, measure, calculate, pour, and trowel concrete.
- Build catch basins, shoot grades with a laser, and lay pipe.
- Knowledge of traffic regulations and construction equipment safety.
- Set up a safe work zone and learn specialized maintenance skills.
- Good communication skills; follow oral instructions and complete forms and paperwork.
- Able to read, write, and hear within a normal range.
- Interact with the public professionally.
- Able to work flexible hours in emergencies.
Work Schedule: Tuesday - Friday, 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM
