About the Job

Concho Hearts Hospice is looking to expand our team and as a Hospice Assistant Biller, you will play a vital role in ensuring our financial health. You will be responsible for assisting with accurately billing Medicare / Medicaid for hospice services provided to patients, as well as assisting with room and board billing for patients receiving residential care. Your attention to detail, understanding of Medicare / Medicaid billing regulations, and ability to navigate complex billing systems will be critical in this role. This position is in-office, but with the potential to work from home.

• Patient and Insurance Verification:
  • Verify patient demographics, insurance coverage, and eligibility for home health services. 
• Medical Coding:
  • Accurately code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 and CPT codes specific to home health services. 
• Claim Submission:
  • Prepare and submit electronic or paper claims to various payers including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance companies. 
• Claim Review and Auditing:
  • Review medical records to ensure proper documentation and coding accuracy before claim submission. 
• Claim Follow-up:
  • Monitor the status of submitted claims, identify and address claim denials, and take necessary actions to resolve outstanding issues. 
• Billing Compliance:
  • Stay updated on current home health billing regulations and ensure adherence to HIPAA guidelines.
• Patient Billing:
  • Generate patient invoices and collect outstanding balances. 
• Data Management:
  • Maintain accurate patient and billing records within the electronic health record system. 
• Communication:
  • Collaborate with clinical staff, case managers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth billing processes. 
• Required Skills:
  • Medical Coding Knowledge:
    • Thorough understanding of ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines, particularly for home health services. 
  • Billing Software Proficiency:
    • Expertise in using electronic health records (EHR) and billing software applications. 
  • Attention to Detail:
    • Ability to accurately review medical records and identify potential billing errors. 
  • Analytical Skills:
    • Analyze claim denials and identify trends to address recurring billing issues. 
  • Communication Skills:
    • Effectively communicate with patients, insurance companies, and internal stakeholders. 

Medical Biller Requirements:

• Home Health BILLING EXPERIENCE IS A MUST. 
• Education in Billing / Accounting preferred. 
• A minimum of 2 years of experience as a medical home health biller or similar role.
• Solid understanding of billing software in emr systems and quickbooks and electronic medical records.
• Must have the ability to multitask and manage time effectively.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Outstanding problem-solving and organizational abilities.
