California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) and the Department of World Languages and Cultures are seeking a Lecturer to teach in-person American Sign Language (ASL) 101 and 201 courses from Spring 2024. CSUMB is a dynamic campus, only one mile from the beach, along California's beautiful central coast, and offers close proximity to much of the wider Bay Area. There is a high demand for ASL courses at CSUMB and this teaching assignment has the potential, but not guarantee, to continue into future semesters.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence and student success at the university level. The successful candidate must have the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Lecturers are required to maintain additional hours outside the classroom to provide assistance to students. Specific assignments are dependent upon department needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum qualifications include a master's degree in a related field, or equivalent, in accordance with University guidelines. Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A terminal degree and evidence of effective teaching with a variety of methodologies is preferred. Demonstrated understanding and commitment to CSUMB's Vision.

COMPENSATION : The full-time (15 units per semester) monthly base salaries are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester. For a three-unit assignment, typical starting compensation ranges from $5,436 to $6,486 per semester.

CSUMB continuously accepts applications for pools of part-time faculty. Applications may be submitted to the pool at any time. Lecturer appointments are temporary and do not confer tenure. Initial appointments may be for one semester or an academic year. Continuing appointments are contingent upon such factors as performance, enrollment, funding and programmatic need.
