The Employee Health Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of employee occupational health and safety within the hospital setting. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards and promotes a safe and healthy work environment through prevention, education, and timely medical evaluation. Core responsibilities include the management of mandatory health screenings, immunizations, communicable disease exposure tracking and follow-up, and adherence to local and federal public health guidelines, including those set forth by the CDC and Cal/OSHA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and coordinate all employee health services, including pre-employment screenings, TB testing, immunizations, annual health assessments, and fit testing.
- Evaluate and treat employees presenting for occupational health issues or workplace exposures, initiating appropriate care and follow-up per clinical protocols and regulatory guidelines.
- Ensure all occupational health practices align with CDC's Workplace Health Model and Cal/OSHA requirements.
- Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) on employee health protocols, keeping current with regulatory updates and best practices.
- Lead the Leave of Absence (LOA) process, including reviewing eligibility and compliance with federal and state leave programs (e.g., FMLA, CFRA).
- Provide employees with timely and accurate information regarding medical leave, required documentation, pay impacts, return-to-work protocols, and fitness-for-duty evaluations.
- Coordinate disability claims including State Disability Insurance (SDI), Short-Term Disability (STD), and Long-Term Disability (LTD).
- Partner with HR business partners to ensure proper implementation of the interactive process as required under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA), engaging with employees and managers to determine reasonable accommodations and support return-to-work efforts.
- Maintain accurate and confidential employee health records and manage reporting for COVID-19 Supplemental Paid Sick Leave and related medical leave forms.
- Collaborate with Human Resources, Infection Prevention, and Risk Management to support overall employee well-being and workplace safety.
- Maintains all Employee Health and Leave of Absence related policies current with federal and state laws.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Education
Minimum Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, or ten years of professional-level nursing work experience in lieu of a Bachelor's
- Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN or COHN-S)
- Experience working in an acute care hospital environment Preferred Education (Indicate preferred education or degree required.)

- Minimum 3–5 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 2 years in employee/occupational health in a hospital or healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of CDC guidelines, Cal/OSHA regulations, ADA, FEHA, and FMLA/CFRA laws.
- Demonstrated experience managing LOA processes and disability benefits coordination.
- Solid understanding of the interactive process for disability accommodations under ADA/FEHA.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and case management skills.

Preferred Work Experience and Qualifications
- Experience conducting pre-employment health screenings and collaborating with HR on accommodations and special considerations.
- Proficient in managing health surveillance programs (e.g., TB, hazardous drugs, lead, hearing conservation) per regulatory requirements.
- Skilled in maintaining accurate, confidential employee health records and following standard operating procedures.
- Experience participating in safety committees or huddles, analyzing occupational health data, identifying trends, and recommending preventative strategies.
- Ability to assess vaccination needs and administer immunizations in accordance with organizational policy.
- Clinical knowledge in managing caregiver exposures to infectious diseases and bodily fluids, and advising on return-to-work restrictions.
- Experience coordinating return-to-work plans post-leave or injury and facilitating ADA accommodation requests through the interactive process.
- Maintains compliance with legal and regulatory documentation standards while preserving confidentiality and professionalism. Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation (List any licensure or certification required and specify name of agency.)
- Level Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Registered Nurse (RN) – Current and unrestricted California license
- Current Los Angeles County Fire Card required (within 30 days of hire)
- Assault Response Competency (ARC) required (within 30 days of hire)
