Examinetics is looking for an experienced Microsoft SQL Database Administrator to join our team! This is a full time position based at our Overland Park office location. This role will manage, maintain, and optimize our SQL Server environments. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of high availability and replication solutions, including database mirroring, Always On Availability Groups, or similar technologies. They will also possess strong ETL skills for synchronizing data between disparate systems and have experience in managing database upgrades, including SQL Server versions as far back as 2012.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Designing and implementing the structure of databases, including tables, relationships, indexes, and constraints. Defining and optimizing database schemas based on application or business requirements.
  • Manage and maintain SQL Server databases, ensuring performance, availability, and security.
  • Configure and manage SQL Server high availability solutions such as Database Mirroring, Always On Availability Groups, or other replication technologies to ensure business continuity.
  • Design, develop, and optimize ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to synchronize and transform data between disparate systems, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
  • Lead and execute database upgrades and patching activities, ensuring successful migrations from versions as early as SQL Server 2012 to current versions.
  • Analyze database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning recommendations.
  • Ensure database security, including encryption, PII management, and role-based access control, following best practices.
  • Design and implement robust backup and recovery strategies, regularly testing for effectiveness.
  • Use tools for proactive database monitoring, maintenance, and health checks to ensure optimal performance.
  • Maintain detailed documentation for configurations, processes, and procedures.

Job Requirements:

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience as a Microsoft SQL Server DBA
  • Expertise with high availability solutions such as Database Mirroring, Always On Availability Groups, or Log Shipping.
  • Strong experience in ETL processes, including SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) or other ETL tools.
  • Experience with SQL Server versions 2012 through current versions.
  • Familiarity with security and compliance requirements for database environments, especially with PII, PHI, SOC2, and GDPR
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
  • Experience designing and implementing data schema to support an application development.
  • Experience with change control for database changes and database coding standards.
  • Worked on a least 1 major project cross functionally with App Dev team

Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with cloud-based database environments (e.g., Azure, AWS).
  • Familiarity with PowerShell scripting for automation.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices, including CI/CD for database systems.
  • Experience with tools and methods for data anonymization or masking for non-production environments.
  • CI/CD Pipelines : Experience with setting up or supporting Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for database environments, stored procedures, and triggers.
  • Test Data Management : Ability to manage test environments, especially with data that includes Personally Identifiable Information (PII), ensuring compliance through data anonymization, masking, or scrambling techniques.
