Job Description

The New School is seeking a full-time (35 hours/week) Family or Adult Nurse Practitioner (NP) to provide outpatient care for the New School student community. The NP provides medical services to a diverse campus population of 10,000 students, including primary care, urgent care, reproductive care, LGBT health care and treatment for chronic illnesses. This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the New School and SHENS-UAW, and reports to the Senior Director of Medical Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Provides primary care for a diverse population of New School undergraduate and graduate students. Visits will be conducted in-person and via telehealth. 

  • Evaluates and treats urgent medical concerns.

  • Provides routine and urgent GYN care and family planning.

  • Provides transgender health care including hormone therapy.

  • Manages chronic illness within the limits of the Student Health Services scope of operation.

  • Provides referrals to Counseling Services, specialists and hospital facilities as appropriate.

  • Orders x-rays, scans, and other imaging as appropriate.

  • Participates in departmental meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and peer review

  • Maintains appropriate and timely medical record documentation.

  • Collaborates with the Director of Medical Services on quality improvement initiatives, best clinical practices and laboratory interface oversight.

  • Consults with physician team members as needed on complex medical cases

  • Supports training of medical, physician assistant and/or nurse practitioner students as needed.

  • Participates in student education, outreach, webinars and other wellness events as needed. 

  • Participates in Medical, Student Health Services, and Student Success meetings.

  • Other administrative duties and clinical responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • National certification and NYS licensure as a Physician Assistant, Family or Adult Nurse Practitioner. 

  • Three years of clinical experience

  • Outstanding clinical, technical, and interpersonal skills 

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills 

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support Certification (BCLS)

  • Infection control certificate

  • Proficiency in use of virtual meeting platforms, such as Zoom

  • Proficiency in electronic medical records and the use of a patient portal

  • Multicultural competence and a demonstrated commitment to diversity in all forms

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience in college health, adolescent medicine and/or LGBTQ health care preferred

  • Multi-lingual a plus

  • Experience working with a multidisciplinary team of advanced practice medical providers, nurses and mental health providers 

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) 

WORK MODE

Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely. #LI-HYBRID

SALARY RANGE

$120,000 - $140,000 per year based on experience
