Introduction
The Department of Corrections, Division of Juvenile Corrections, is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of youth placed in our care. The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Teacher position. This position is based out of the Grow Academy in Oregon, WI (Dane County), which is a residential program offering comprehensive treatment for County and State supervised youth as an alternative to incarceration as well as a step down for youth returning to the community.
Position Summary
This position provides instructional and educational services to assigned students including: assessing students for need, selection, project-based learning within an agricultural setting, and provision of appropriate instructional resources.
This position also provides guided and independent practice, evaluation of progress, and appropriate remediation.
Services also include maintenance of records and reporting student data as required.
This position is for year-round employment.
Salary Information
This position is in pay schedule and range 13-04 with a starting pay of $29.13/hour - $34.03/hour . Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Job Details
This position is not eligible for remote work and will work on site.
Anticipated schedule will be Monday – Friday 7:45 AM – 4:30 PM. This position is FLSA Exempt. This position will transport youth to off grounds activities and may occasionally travel for training, meetings, conferences, or similar events.
Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

Qualifications
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess certification as a Teacher (grade levels: pre K-12, 6-12, 7-12, or 9-12) by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and meet State of Wisconsin fleet requirements . Employees will be required to maintain a valid driver's license and eligibility to drive a fleet vehicle.
Minimally qualified applicants will have: Experience using evidence-based teaching practices.
In addition to the above, well qualified applicants will have: Certification by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction in at least one of the following: #1316 Reading Teacher, #1801 Cross-Categorical Special Education; #1810 Cognitive Disabilities; #1811 Learning Disabilities; or #1830 Emotion/Behavioral Disabilities.
Experience working with students with significant behaviors and mental health needs.
Experience using trauma informed best practices and understanding the impact of trauma .
